Mandy Gildersleeve, PT

CORNERSTONE PILATES RESIDENT INSTRUCTOR

As a child, college athlete, physical therapist, and mom, I have always believed in the power of movement.  For me, it is critical to a healthy body and mind.  And, it is why I am so proud to be a Polestar Pilates Instructor with a Rehabilitation Certification.

From the day I was born way back in 1968 on Long Island, I have been moving.  I rode the unicycle and played almost every sport as a youth.  Eventually, I made my way to Northeastern University where I was an aerobics instructor and member of their D1 field hockey team.

While my field hockey career ended in Boston, it is where my physical therapy career began.  Working as a PT provided the next opportunity for me to witness the power of movement.  My focus was on outpatient orthopedic treatment, and I was fortunate to engage with many amazing physicians and patients.

Before I knew it, my study of movement was directed toward our young children.  They were involved in everything from swimming and soccer to basketball and rowing, and it was during this time I worked with friends to start the largest kids triathlon in the world.  Also, this is when I grew to appreciate the important roles proper conditioning, stretching, and strength training play in injury prevention.

With both kids in college, it was time to focus back on me.  The search for a new challenge led me to Pilates.  I love to learn, and Pilates gave me the opportunity to combine my education and life experiences to help others.  That is my true passion.  Regardless of your level of ability, movement is medicine.

When not visiting our children in California and Florida, you can find me walking my tripod rescue lab, Chance, and riding my beach cruiser (with basket) around North Dallas.  I cherish the opportunity to be outdoors and travel the world, and I still enjoy spending time with my husband of 28 years, Tom.
