Mandy is a Polestar Rehabilitation Certified Pilates Instructor. She has been a life-long athlete with a passion for movement and helping others. She brings her experience as a Physical Therapist, college athlete and group fitness instructor into her practice as a Pilates Instructor. She is skilled at working with clients who are recently released from Physical Therapy and still need a therapeutic approach to help them regain their full movement potential. She also loves to work with clients who are athletes preparing for events, surfing, rowing, dancing, golfing, playing tennis or any other challenging activity. She loves teaching fun and challenging group classes and working with everyday movers of all shapes, sizes and abilities. She is passionate about movement and loves to share that passion with others.
From the day Mandy was born way back in 1968 on Long Island, she has been moving. She rode the unicycle and played almost every sport as a youth. Eventually, she made her way to Northeastern University where she was an aerobics instructor and member of their D1 field hockey team. While her field hockey career ended in Boston, it is where her physical therapy career began. Working as a PT provided the next opportunity for Mandy to witness the power of movement. Her focus was on outpatient orthopedic treatment, and she was fortunate to engage with many amazing physicians and patients.
Before she knew it, Mandy’s study of movement was directed toward her young children. They were involved in everything from swimming and soccer to basketball and rowing, and it was during this time that she worked with friends to start the largest kids triathlon in the world. Also, this is when she grew to appreciate the important roles proper conditioning, stretching, and strength training play in injury prevention. With both kids in college, it was time to focus back on herself. The search for a new challenge led Mandy to Pilates. She loves to learn, and Pilates gave her the opportunity to combine her education and life experiences to help others. That is her true passion. Regardless of your level of ability, movement is medicine.
When not visiting her children in California and Florida, you can find Mandy walking her tripod rescue lab, Chance, and riding her beach cruiser (with basket) around North Dallas. She cherishes the opportunity to be outdoors and travel the world and still enjoys spending time with her husband of 28 years, Tom.
Here at Cornerstone, Mandy teaches Movement Integration sessions where she incorporates the Rehabilitation side of her Polestar Certification and her past experience as a PT into therapeutic sessions. She is also trained to use the OOV (a dynamic tool to help build stability and strength), the SmartSpine products (to add heat and assisted stretching), and the Rossiter System to help ease tension and pain as needed during sessions. She also loves to work with clients in Pilates sessions where the focus is on learning and using the amazing system of exercises created by Joseph Pilates to strengthen and challenge the body. She loves a challenge and loves to design programs for each client based on their specific needs.
